Thanks for letting me write for this, was really moved by the opportunity Winston. You're just... so kind to us and you hosting these you and Brian Niemeier have really done us such a kindness that I don't know what to say.
I can't participate myself (too many projects on the go, so I was happy to do the write up) but will spread the word.
While I'm sure I could whip up a new story just for this round, I'd prefer to submit this historic fantasy tale from a couple of months ago because I personally feel like it's some of my best work.
Thank you very much for including me. I would like to submit: The Crown of Ashes and Blood Book One:
Earth’s final days are upon humanity as a massive asteroid, Xena Apoc, hurtles toward the planet, destined to obliterate everything in its path. Blue is abducted from her home and sold to a buyer as part of a breeding pair. When she arrives at her destination, she discovers the planet is teetering on the edge of a brutal civil war. Now, she must figure out how to survive, fight the growing feelings for her "mate," and cling to the hope of returning home.
Hey Novaheart, thank you for your time and interest in submitting to the Lunar Awards. Unfortunately, your entry cannot be considered as it doesn't align with the following rules:
1) It must be a short story. Microfiction, flash fiction, novellas, novelettes, novels, or serials will not be accepted.
2) It must be standalone (no serials, chapters, or parts), but it can be a part of an anthology or a shared universe.
You're welcome to submit another story as long as it meets our guidelines. Sorry for any confusion. Thank you!
Do we just need to post the link? Or do you need the story title, author and such? Also, if we have a substack but it uses our domain name does that cause any issues?
Hey A. Kristina Casasent, all I need is the link to your story on Substack. This is to ensure that Substack is the only source of competing submissions as the LA team can't track stories across various platforms at this time. Domain names alone shouldn't disqualify your submission as long as all other requirements are met. As for amplifying information, you can provide it if you'd like, but it doesn't affect the confirmation or judging of your submission. Please check previous rounds for examples of confirmed submissions. Thanks for the questions!
Hey Josh, you may participate in every round as long as you haven't been selected to receive a publishing contract for the anthology. I'll try to clarify that in the FAQ. Thanks for asking!
Thanks for the clarification, Winston! For some reason I thought I'd read that we couldn't participate in multiple rounds, but I must have been imagining things 😅
I’ve heard that agent R. Solace has started circulating The Dimension of Fantasy manuscript among select publishers. It’s described as an ambitious eight-book franchise with significant multimedia potential. Has anyone else heard about this or similar high-profile fantasy projects in the pipeline?
Hey ATEN, thanks for your submission and interest in the Lunar Awards. Our guidelines state a wordcount limit of 7500. Do you have an official count on your end that I can compare with mine? It may seem arbitrary, but I'm trying to keep it fair by making the wordcounts a hard limit. Because you've entered before the cutoff, I'll allow a quick revision to meet the wordcount requirements but only if it doesn't alter your story narratively. I wouldn't expect you to change your story to meet our guidelines. Alternatively, you can still submit as is, but the story won't be eligible for the top prizes. Up to you. I'll await your response.

I know I can't submit the same story twice, but can I participate in this round if I've already participated in a previous round?

Any restrictions based on fantasy subgenres?
Thanks for asking, David. There are no restrictions with subgenres. I updated the post to include the main subgenres for clarification.
Thank you. I’ll need to make a choice as to what to submit.

Hi! No problem.
It is currently about 7900 words, just over. When would you need the revision by? I will not be able to address it today.
I'd say no later than 8/15 so we have time to read before the final judging on Aug 20th. Thanks for understanding!
Post is updated! It's at about 7450 words now.
Sweet. I'll add to the roster of stories. Thanks, ATEN!
I think I can make that happen. I'll respond to this thread when the post is updated. Thanks!
So excited for this! I just released a new standalone fantasy story today that I'd like to submit for the challenge. Here's Braum Brannigan's Last Stand: https://open.substack.com/pub/brannleymiller/p/braum-brannigans-last-stand?r=3njh2h&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web
