Season Seven Starts Now: Solar Flare Edition!
Join a community, write, submit and be recognized.
Today marks the start of Lunar Awards season seven. This “Solar Flare Edition” is an intense, hyperbolic localized emission of electromagnetic radiation in the Substack atmosphere. Summer is here (in the US), and a lot of heat is being generated by your stories. We’ll be accepting submissions for the Short Story category this season, and our sponsor is going to send us on a journey through the universe in a series of sci-fi thrillers.
Sponsor
Science fiction author Joshua James — who you may remember as our very first interview — has agreed to provide our winner with all four eBooks in his popular “Saturn’s Legacy” series, including the audio book versions!
This is an exciting evolution in our focus, where we’re strengthening our community and partnering with industry professionals to bring you stellar awards, all while elevating science fiction and fantasy.
For millions of years, Saturn hid an alien secret. In 2065, humanity will find it. ~ “Artifact” (Book 1)
(The eBooks and audio books will be delivered via a BookFunnel download link after the announcement of the winner. I can send the link via DM or the email associated with the subscriber.)
Season Details
Please read the FAQ, which contains the complete rules, including word limits. Ask in the comments if you have questions. The judging period is 7-14 days after the deadline before a winner is announced.
Short Story Submission Period:
Short stories must be published on Substack after Sunday, June 23, 2024, 12:00am UTC (season start), and before Saturday, July 13, 2024, 11:59am UTC (season end). A total of 21 days. All times are UTC so there is no confusion on time differences.
Prompt Quest #2 Exemptions:
If you contributed a short story to Prompt Quest #2, then it is exempt from the publication start date rule. It’s one of your rewards for completing the quest, but it must follow all other rules (like word count).
Award Season Six Judge:
Prizes
A six-month paid comp to the Lunar Awards, which grants you 7-day early access notification for the next award season.
A download of four eBooks and four audio books, containing the “Saturn’s Legacy” series, written by Joshua James.
A permanent link on the Past Winners page, including a high-resolution badge to display on your Substack.
Short Story Entry
Post a link to your short story in the comments of this post. The entry will be verified with a confirmed ✅ response comment. If it violates a rule, it will be considered temporarily declined until a correction is made.
I shall submit my Prompt Quest #2 story, which I like very much and clearly a lot of other people did too, as it has about 4 times as many likes as anything else I've posted.
It can be read (or re-read, if you want to find something new in it, which I am sure you will) here: https://inadifferentplace.substack.com/p/never-seen-stars?r=2s9hod
Oh - and all the best of luck to everyone else!
Ah - I totally approve of your sponsorship approach Brian - this creates quite a rich environment and it adds a nice little spice into the mix. May it all go swimmingly!
I'd like to submit a new short story, "Deep Calls to Deep"

Looking forward to reading everyone's stories! 🤩
