I love reading and writing all three genres this contest covers, but I have to confess that horror is my favorite for short stories. I'm thrilled to be taking part in this contest again. Good luck to all the authors who enter.

Hey, I'd love to submit, but I do need to know if my story is eligible. Could you answer my previous question here?

Sorry for the late response - I missed your original comment. Thank you for reaching out again

I have a story that fits all the other requirements. I published it on here as a serial, but it is complete, and I can send you the whole thing together. Would this be okay?

Shaina Read's avatar

Yes Zaklog, this would be fine!

I just submitted mine. Thank you for this opportunity!

Are stories that were previously published in other anthologies and only recently had the rights reverted and published on Substack allowed? It seems so, but I want to make sure I understand correctly.

Hey, Jean. Yes. As long as you have the rights to your story and haven’t won a round for the current season, you’re eligible to submit.

So essentially this means that reprints are permitted, so long as we have the rights to the story? i.e. the publication rights have reverted to us following whatever previous publication it was? Obviously a lot of places consider 'self-published on Substack' to be 'previously published', but of course the Lunar Awards doesn't.

Hey Evelyn, that is correct. We recognize that publishing on Substack can still mean "published" in many cases, but due to the nature of how we receive submissions and how the community operates, we do not disqualify for prior publication. The main factor for prohibiting a story is whether the author remains the only rights holder to their work at the time of submission.

@Winston Malone can you help me with this one?
