Greetings to all writers of fantasy and science fiction on Substack, and a warm welcome to those readers interested in discovering some of the most entertaining and out-of-this-world speculative fiction on the platform! Our adventure together begins today. This first season there will be one category — the short story.

Award Season One Submission Launch:
Wednesday, March 29, 2023, 12am UTC

Award Season One Submission Deadline:
Tuesday, April 18, 2023, 11:59am UTC

Award Season One Judge:

Brian Reindel

Before submitting, please read the FAQ. Don’t forget to return here and post a link to your short story when it’s finished. Every entry will be verified with a response comment. If it violates a rule, it will be considered temporarily declined until a correction is made. Ask in the comments if you have questions about the rules, and feel free to interact with other participants! This is a community we want to build and support.

Remember, your entry must be published between the award season launch date and deadline. A reminder post will be sent halfway through the award season. Submitting an entry that has already been published on Substack or through another platform or publisher is not allowed.

The judging period is 7-10 days after the deadline before a winner is announced.

Let’s read some stories!

I would like to submit my short story: Mycelial

https://realphillipcarter.substack.com/p/mycelial-aprils-free-short-story

An existentialist fungus muses on identity, community, plurality, and what it might mean to become an individual in a world where 'the One' is the ruling personality.

It is 2402 words long.

Thanks for creating the Lunar Awards!
